View Full Version : Petition for Futurama figures

Yeeaah, any of you guys familiar with the old boards will remember my endless crusade for a company (not necessarily Mezco, since they are already handling Family Guy) to make some good figures, since it is prehaps my favorite animated show, that unfortunatly had recieved poor treatment when on the air. So if you haven't already, here's the "official" petition to sign. [Bill Lumbergh] So if you could do that as soon as possible, that would be greaaaaat. m'kay?? Thanks. [/Bill Lumbergh]

Futurama figures were already made. Just look on eBay. I picked up some of these die cast figures for my little brother around a year ago for only $1 each at the Dollar Store.

I know, but they only lasted one series due to the fact there was little cult fanbase, with just Fry, Leela, Bender and a little dorky ship (well, I thought it was dorky). I was hoping a line with Zoidberg, Farnsworth, Zapp Brannigan, Scruffy, Morbo, and a ton of other characters would come around, because after all the fanbase is equal to or greater than that of some of the other figure lines that have become hits (like Invader Zim, and Family Guy, not that I don't like those shows, I'm just saying...)
Since Mezco and Palisades can't do the line, I was hoping NECA, McFarlene, or Toynami could do a good figure line (oh and I do already know about the I-Men as well)

This property does deserves much better figures than what was made in the past. I love Futurama but I never picked up any of the old figures because they looked...weak.
So good luck in getting this off the ground, you'd think that with the ratings the show gets on CN and the high DVD sales we'd have seen some new product.

Well, now with McToys picking up the Simpsons, hopefully sales will be good and McToys can work with Fox to purchase the Futurama license as well.

Is McFarlane Toys going to be the only manufacturer of The Simpsons figures or is Playmates going to continue to make The Simpsons figures too?

Yes, the PM licensed ended in 2004. McToys purchased the license for 05 and 06. The first 2 McF diorama sets are coming in August. You can read more here: www.simpsonscollectors.com (http://www.simpsonscollectors.com).

Ehhh, those aren't exactly new. Plus cartoon characters don't really translate well into block-format. I was hoping for figures that look exactly like the sourse material, and stuff.

Sorry..I'm still realling from the seemingly "common" knowledge that McToys has bought the Simpsons license. That could be very interesting. Oh yeah, and -signed. :D

Meh, now that I think it, I probably wouldn't want McFarlene's non-articulated Futurama mini-statues that break straight out of the package. NECA or Toynami would be a lot better at making better figures (and since Toynami already has the rights for block-style ones, why not big, non-blocky ones?)

Too bad Palisades isn't interested in the license. After what they did with their Muppets figs, I'm sure they'd do an awesome job on Futurama.

They were interested, but right now it's too expencive for them......at least for right now.

Also, I sure this has been a very oft-asked question but I was just wondering; What are the chances of Futurama coming back to the airwaves right now? I mean, now that the final DVD is out and they are doing a little "collection" DVD. Has the amount of time that it took for Family Guy to resurrect already passed for our beloved show, or what's the story?
Larson
02-11-2005, 03:42 PM
Well, in case any of you guys were wondering about that last question, somebody on a Futurama board told me this:
Despite Family Guy coming back after a couple of years off I cannot imagine Futurama coming back under any circumstances. Most of the folks have gone on to other stuff and even DXC has started a new animated series so it would be difficult to get him back as well as most of the writers on the show.
The hopes I guess at this point would be some sort of movie or direct to DVD movie but even that I wouldn't hold my breath on. Of course this is all opinion on my part and tomorrow there could be an announcement but considering the contentuous relationship between Groening and Fox over Futurama (and to an extent the Simpsons) I wouldn't foresee the series coming back to that network.
Would it be possible another network pick it up? Sure and there have been rumours floating around regarding Cartoon Network but I can't see them having the cash necessary to keep a show like Futurama running and up to the standards that it has already achieved.
As far as a new figure line, well, I would think something will happen with that before anything were to happen with the show. Heck, since the show has been off the air we have seen the release of the I-Men which seemed to be pretty popular and the most important part is that they were sold in retial stores other than on line and other specialty type stores.
Ehhh, s'not looking good for the show. I like Family Guy and all, but I really wish that Futurama came back instead. It had so much more going for it.

I'd love more Futurama toys, the ones out didn't do the characters any justice. And the fact they only made 3 characters hurt too. (MAC anyway) I still managed to ebay my way into a Collect-O-Pack for a good price, as well as one of the exclusive Bender's with the "Kill All Humans" Apron on. Got one of the tin "Gender Bender" wind-up toys too.
I want to see some Professor action - "I could save them... but I'm already in my pjamas" (ignore the horrible spelling, I'm tired)
Petition happily signed, although if more toys get made, my wallet won't be so happy :p

Say, since due to the cost of the licence, I don't think it's too realistic to say that a company will make 5'-6' figures, but what if some company could make PVC's or mini-figures or something in small scale, without them being die-cast or blocky

Holy crap!
Over the last week, several sources from within the animation business have indicated to us that there is renewed talk at FOX about bringing fresh Futurama content directly to DVD. We corroborated this with other sources close to the show before publishing the information.
The talk is of course still in a preliminary stage. Options reported to us include one or more Futurama movies in case of a go-ahead.
Even though Futurama is not sure to return and the likelihood of its return is currently unknown, this is the first time in the past few years that we have heard of Futurama being discussed at the upper levels of FOX. They'll likely have a good look at the sales of the upcoming Futurama Monster Robot Maniac Fun Collection.
and from Billy West (Fry, Professor Farnsworth, Dr. Zoidberg, Zapp Brannigan)
Top of the morning to you---and the rest of the day to myself.Ladies and gentlemen, boisenberries, pestals and stamens....there's encouraging news.
Well,I spoke to David X.Cohen because we did promos for a new Futurama compilation and he said that they did have talks with the top guys at FOX and they were extremely impressed with the sales of the Futurama DVDs.The idea was to make a Futurama movie right to DVD and then a 2nd and a 3rd.That's what's being discussed.Fox is trying to figure out a budget for the whole project, and it sounded like David X. was very jazzed!
I would love more than anything to do that show again.I thought it was best experience on every level...creatively,voice-wise,writing,animation and the laughs. The laughs.Writers and performers that respected each other.
No derelict genius looking down the barrel of his own complacency wrecking everything in his wake.
Wouldn't it be nice?
A great day to be us.What's better than that?
Love is in the air and so is mercury but we're working on it.
Bye all,
Billy

I think Mezco would be very smart in aquiring the Futurama licence since 20th Century Fox just signed a FOUR PICTURE MOVIE DEAL(staright to DVD).
With four direct to DVD movies coming, this would be a great opportunity to capitilize on the line and maybe even bring it back to life.
I would buy any and all Futurama figures!!
