I've had a few emails asking whether glimpses of South Park in various Mezco coverage was a mistake, or do Mezco really have a license to do South Park. I'll tell you what I know...
I've had a few people ask questions about this, asking whether Mezco is really doing South Park.
Well yes they are, and at the moment there aren't a lot of details, as I believe they'd only just picked up the license.
The plan is to repeat their success of Family Guy with South Park. So expect in terms of figures, a line very similar, which I honestly think is probably the best way to do it. No line ups were announced, and everything was still being decided when we were at the Mezco showroom, but the plan is for series 1 to hit around November.
Things might change but as we get more info, we'll be sure to let you know.

1 Mecha Ape per case? Man. I hope that changes. I mean, c'mon--a mechanical ape with a head in a jar will probably appeal to people who have never even heard of HB. While I want my Liz too, I'm really surprised she's not the one at 1 per. Besides, there's only one villain in the wave, and he's going to be 1 per?

New images and information from the main Roach himself: Mez!
In addition to supplying new images of his 7" assortment of "realistic" Scarface action figures, Mike "Mez" Markowitz, President of Mezco Toyz (http://www.figures.com/databases/redirect1.cgi?dom=fig&sys=news&action=clicks&sponsor=mezco_TF05_05_13_2005_480x543&size=art&url=www.mezcotoyz.com/~qm|eq~1), sat down with Figures.com to provide a little insight on the line...
What made you want to produce "realistic" figures based on Scarface after already creating the "stylized" versions?
MEZ: I really like working in the stylized style. I think that there is a lot that it can add to a collectable. It is a great way to include some of the attitude, soul & essence of a character or movie. I think it brings something to a figure that is unique. Its also a style I have been working hard to get accepted in the collectors market. Scarface was a perfect opportunity to execute this. Although I still see a lot of “nay sayers” the product sells in this format. I of course also knew that people would want to see a more picture accurate figure or “realistic” as you say. We always had intentions of doing both. But I think if I put the latter in the market first I would have had a more up hill battle pushing the stylized ones. Another part of the equation is that as of now we only have Pacino & I needed a way to maximize that restriction.
The popularity of the stylized Scarface figures shows there is still interest in this classic film. What other products besides the statues and new realistic figures do you plan to create based on the Scarface film?
MEZ: We have planned stylized figures with sound. More cold cast and a few surprises.
What other films, besides The Warriors, The Blues Brothers, and Scarface, would you like to create stylized and realistic figures for?
MEZ: TONS! However I wont tell you what as there are things we are working on that I wouldn’t want to make our competition aware of :)
What figures will be made in the new realistic line and what type of variants can we expect to see?
MEZ: We are doing Pacino as Tony Montana. There will be “The Player” (pictured above) which is Scarface in his prime, when he is at the top of his gangster game. This figure will have 2 versions. One of him in the white suit he sports & one of him in his blue suit. This figure will have 16 points of articulation & come with a pistol & brief case. We will also being doing “The Fall” (pictured below), a less articulated figure depicting the final scene in the movie when he breaks out the big guns. As for variants in the regular line, “The Player” will have 2 different head sculpts mixed into the case pack. "The Fall" figure will only have one of him freaking out in his rage induced insanity as he readies for his final battle.
What is the production run (if available) of the Scarface figures and how many of each variant will be made (if there are variants)?
MEZ: Within the regular line up I discussed above, the final numbers aren't locked yet, its not a limited edition. But the initial sell in was strong & we are shipping a good amount of figures.
Why do you think the Scarface figures are so popular and which one is your favorite?
MEZ: I think that Scarface is an iconic movie that lots of people can relate to in one way or another. Its also a timeless movie, its one of those movies that you can watch today & its still perfect. Ya know one of those movies that should NEVER be remade! I think that is the core reason why the figures are such a hit. I also know that me & my crew being such big fans of the movie we did our best to make sure that what we did paid respect to the movie. My favorite are the stylized ones, particularly “The Runner” (http://photos.figures.com/photo/1/showphoto.php?photo=24252&cat=2644&page=1).
Is there any plans for a San Diego Comic Con Scarface exclusive at this time?
MEZ: Ya never know ;)
Look for Mezco's 7" "Realistic" Scarface action figures this July/August for a SRP of $15.99 each. Click the link below for a complete Scarface image gallery tour!
