Actually...upon second look...Abe is the only new figure shown. I wonder if there will be a series 3 or we're just getting Abe.

I'll be happy with just Abe...but hope for Series 3.

Hmm...I wonder what this means? Are we just getting Abe or is this just the start of the line? Or is this the only one that made it to sculpting stage and it *gasp* might not happen?

I think the face looks a little too human in the close-up shot. Other than that I'd have to say it's perfect and I can't wait to get my hands on him.

On the other side I'm a bit disapointed. I mean Anung Un Rama, Rasputin and the Frog Monster would have been great figures too. Not complaining though.

Still I hope series 3 gets made. If not now maybe next year when Hellboy 2 hits... (okay, so maybe I am complaining about S-3 just a little )

I'd guess if there were others they'd have (at least) little cardboard standees in place of the figures that weren't ready yet-

hope I'm wrong, though-
I really dug this line..................................

Whoooo! Thanks for the pics dude! He does look great, and we get a vest too. I do have some issues with the style chosen for the face, I'd rather it be a more contemporary Mignola rendition......but the body is PERFECT. I can deal with a head thats a little off my tastes but still looks good. Gawd I'm rambling.

We're just getting Abe. Mainly due to our passionate request that he get made to complete the BPRD. Shame, I would have loved to see a Hellboy with a sculpted coat.

That's simultaneously great and very disappointing. I really looked forward to Rasputin and a Frog Monster. Man I am dejected.

I suppose sales could have been worse this go but for me atleast demand out paced my local retailers. They all ordered less product and ended up selling out before I got series 2.
Of course Jor uses which may be sarcasm but I can't tell.

I guess I better start stockpiling LoJos and Rogers and Liz's for customs.

Seems like a reasonable compromise. Much better than just dropping the licence alltogether. Thanks a lot Mez!!

Just wondering... how will Abe be available?

I fear I'm going to have to buy him for something like 40 dollars from cornerstorecomics.com like I had to do with last year's "Heads" exclusive...

I'm hoping that Marvel Toys will pick up both the HB and Goon balls and run with them.

I'm glad that we are gettign Abe but I am sad that there won't be anymore. I would gladly sacrifice Marvel Legends for this line in a heart beat (and I have a lot of Marvel Legends). Mez did a great job on all the HB figures and the Goon and hopefully I will be picking up something else from them in the future. I have been resistin those Southpark figures but now that I have seen Towelie and Lemmywinks I might have to go ahead and give in.

That is sad news indeed. But I must also say many thanks for getting Abe out there for us. That means a lot to the fans and I personally wont forget it. I know it's a huge investment to have a figure produced, I hope you can at least break even on it. I'll buy two if I can handle it financially at the time.

Like everyone else, I'm uber-grateful that you're giving us Abe. But now I've got to ask...will Mez have the rights to make figures for Hellboy 2 in 2008? Can you at least tell us you're actively keeping your mitts on the license just for the next movie?

Hopefully Mez wouldn't go through the trouble of producing the fig and then make him inaccessible to tons of fans by having him as a convention exclusive only.

Uh Oh....I just read this tid bit from Figures.com in their Gentle Giant Hellboy story.

"Lastly, there is one more Hellboy project in the works at Gentle Giant. Designers are hard at work creating 6” scale figures based on the Hellboy live-action movie. While nothing is set in stone at this time (and we weren’t allowed to take photos of the prototypes) Gentle Giant does hope for more info on these figures to be released shortly."

http://www.figures.com/databases/act...icle=1516&nl=1

That doesn't sound good. While the Animated figures look great, their realistic people have sucked the big one in the past, plus it means Mezco might not have the HB2 license and GG is going for 6" scale so there's no chance they'll look good with the Mezco stuff. This is mostly speculation, the article wasn't clear. But if this is what it sounds like...BOOO HISSSS BOOO!!!

damn you and your wish-washy answer Jor. "Not allowed to say anything at this time."... "Not at liberty to say"... "Can't confirm anything right now"... getting sick of your inability to say anything of meaning that is concrete.

just kidding... you should just go and create a bot with a couple dozen pre-written phrases.

sucks to here the line is at an end... pain in the butt when creativity is overcome by stupid things like finances.

I would really appreciate Mezco making this available through Club Mez.
I would much rather give my money directly to Mezco rather than a third-party reseller while duking it out with a bunch of other people on eBay or something. I'm all for the SDCC attendees getting the opportunity to acquire them in hand first, as that way it still has a coolness factor, and then Mezco shipping orders to its customers who can't make it to SDCC (for various reasons).
How do pre-orders factor into Mezco's determination of a manufacturing run of figures?

As long as he's easy like the Hellboy w/ Japanese heads, I'll be happy.

And as far as the GG announcement goes, that's just strange.
Gentle Giant has always done just scanning sculpting for other companies' action figures. I didn't know they were trying to get in the market themselves.
I guess we'll have to wait & see.

Yeah. Just look at their Star Wars busts. VERY hit or miss as far as the human characters go. And each time in extremes. They're either perfect, or terrible.

Well, they have been in the market for quite some time. Albeit a totally different one cause they mostly released statues and busts. The only thing closest to figures that I can think of is the 12" Willy Wonka figure/doll , which was pretty decent.

I have faith in GG.....they have some misses but when they want to make something....they make SOMETHING

Sometimes I wonder if the Hellboy license would have flourished more at a stronger company, say NECA or Mc Farlane. The movie lines were pretty much wasted by tons of unwanted varients and the abscence of key characters. I recall a certain poll for series 2 characters. A pole where Liz Sherman received most of the votes, only to not be included into future movie related lines. And I still think that the year long wait for series 2 of the comic line was a further detrimate, especially around the season where people are buying ipods, plasma TVs PS3s and Wiis. Action figures and collectible aren't really a priority, even with the younger demographic NECA seems to have their hands in many of the major licenses out there, perhaps they could have done more with Big Red. With the Golden Army around the corner, they are the only company that I trust to bring the goods. Oh well, it appears that MEz no longer has that license as well.

Looks like a Mezcoless year, possibly existence for me, with their Goonies line looking less than satisfactory, and the New Line figures appearing to be a tad bit too cartoon like in nature. Hellboy brought me here, and unfortunately there is no reason for me to stick around now that he's gone.

The people at action-figure.com took some more time and shot Abe from a bunch of different angles.

I can't wait for this figure. I love the structure of his skin, the paint job and the fins. Still I hope the face gets a little bit more Mignolafied. I also think the feet and chest could use a little work. No big complaints though. I would buy this figure as it is now in a heartbeat.

It's a shame the line ends here though... I hope some other company can pick it up like Xequals10 suggested. The license does seem to gain in popularity (HB animated/HB2 Golden Army).

In my ideal vision of the future the upcoming movies create a new breed of fans big enough for Mez to reconsider making a 3rd series.

Please don't burst my imaginary bubble. I like living in here.

One last thing... Is it just me or do these seem to be different in size?

Unhappy Re: HELLBOY SERIES 3!!!! Pics!!

Huge mistake, in my opinion, if this indeed is the end. I don't see how a big licence like this can get cut off while Hellboy is getting bigger and bigger with the new Animated shows, second movie and such coming up. This is the only thing I get from Mezco and sadly if this is it then my time here is done as well (Starts caveman talk) I like me Hellboy comic stuff (Ends caveman talk)

Thank you very much Mez' for Abe, but I cannot tell you how much I lament the loss of the Hellboy comic line. So many characters left to see and the perfect company to realize those creations. Just a crying, too bad shame.

It's cool we're getting Abe, but it's a shame to see the line go. Mezco has done a perfect job bringing these characters to life. Like others, HB is the only Mezco product I collect. Hopefully Mezco will hold onto the license through the next movie. If interest kicks back up, who knows... I'll keep dreaming for Kate, Ben, Rasputin, Nazis, faeries and goblins, and everything else.

I wonder how NECA can keep making Pirates figures, that warm pegs all over the country, how McFarlane's Spawn, a reasonably dead character, has lived to see assorment 30, yet Hellboy only gets two series? I still think the line would still be alive it were somewhere else. Mez did a great job while they had it, but I don't think they have the octaine to compete with the big boys. I say, give up the license so that another company can pick it up in time for the big Hellboy boom that is coming in the next couple of years. Sorry, but Bui-ness is Bui-ness.

The Real Inadia
From what I've heard, NECA spends a ton of money on licenses even if there's a chance they'll end up taking a huge loss on it...if this is true, it could potentially sink the company in time...but for now I guess they are just rolling the dice.

As for McFarlane, Spawn is an in-house property, meaning there's no cost to them for licensing...so I imagine they can take the loss if the products don't sell...and if they DO sell, then it's almost all profit for them.

Mezco on the other hand seems to play it safe. As crushed as I am to see the comic Hellboy line end, I have faith that Mez is doing what's best for the company so they will still be around to give us SOME things we want, if not EVERYTHING we want. I mean, if they keep taking chances on continuing different licenses that aren't selling for them, it could eventually bankrupt the company...then it's not just bye-bye Hellboy or Warriors...it's bye-bye Mezco.

I STILL don't know why Mezco can't take a risk on something like the following:

Take Hellboy and make it online exclusive. Put pre-orders on a series 3 on their website and store here..

THEN advertise on various websitesm and through ToyFare, etc..Get word out.

....then, make the product to meet demand. It's what SOTA was planning on doing.

Is this a plausible idea, or would it be bound to backfire?

In the meantime..I am VERY appreciative that we are at least getting Abe.

But it's just such a rich property to waste.

I agree. Making an exclusive every now and then would be a marvelous idea.

that would be difficult. the cost is effected by the number produced. If there aren't enough orders a company might barely break even... if they're lucky. Plus factories have magic numbers on productions runs that greatly influence production costs. If you come in shy you could end up losing money.

Someone will get the license sooner or later. I hope NECA would at least get the Golden Army license, but it seems doubtful. SIgh, I will never have a Slema Blair Liz Sherman figure.
