Besides decorating ones room using paints there are many other ways to color a house. Using wallpaper is another way of coloring ones house. By comparing color hues on the wallpaper to a color wheel one can easily find ones color scheme. A lot of choice is offered on how one can decorate with additional hues if all the colors on the wall paper are the same hue. But if the wall paper design contains more than one color one needs to carefully match the hues to that on a color wheel to find the color scheme. The value and tone of the color should be ignored while comparing wallpaper colors to the color wheel.

Color scheme comes in four basic varieties: monochromatic, adjacent, complementary and triadic. Only when the wallpaper has one color hue in it can a monochromatic color scheme be used.

Adjacent color scheme can be used if there is only one color hue in the wall paper or if the wall paper uses both colors in the adjacent scheme. If the colors on the color scheme are next to each other the color scheme is said to be adjacent.

When the color hues are on opposite sides of the color wheel, Complementary color schemes are used. If the wall paper has two complementary colors adding a third color to the color scheme would not look very attractive.

Triadic color schemes are the ones which offer most variety. When each color hue on the color wheel makes up part of a triangle this scheme can be used. In this scheme one should focus on one of the colors and use the other two as accents only.
